Auld Lang Syne, 2020-Style
The day most of us have prayed for has finally arrived – December 31, 2020! The most unforgettable year on record will finally be over!
Now on New Year’s Eve, one long-running tradition is to sing the tune “Auld Lang Syne” as midnight hits. But given how 2020 has played out, perhaps the lyrics to this classic song should be altered somewhat. In this spirit, here is my own version of Auld Lang Syne, with lyrics to reflect some of the things that made 2020 so memorable.
Should 2020 be forgot
A year most unforeseen
Should 2020 be forgot
The year of COVID-19
For COVID-19, my dear
For old COVID-19
We’ll take a shot of vaccine yet
For old COVID-19
The year of social distancing
Most everything was closed
The raging mask/no mask debate
And threats from all opposed
For COVID-19, my dear
For old COVID-19
We’ll take a shot of vaccine yet
For old COVID-19
Dicamba, a ruling against
Product use was taken back
Re-registration did take place
But now, a new attack
For COVID-19, my dear
For old COVID-19
We’ll take a shot of vaccine yet
For old COVID-19
New hope does dawn, at least at first
A better year with sun
2021 could finally see
All freed to have some fun
For COVID-19, my dear
For old COVID-19
We’ll take a shot of vaccine yet
For old COVID-19
Happy New Year, everyone!
