MAGIE Is Turning 40!
About one week ago, I got the most wonderful news! The 2021 edition of the Midwest AG Industries Exposition (MAGIE) will happen August 25-26 in Bloomington, IL!!
And as wonderful as this news is – from the standpoint that in-person events are finally making a comeback in the post-pandemic world – this year’s MAGIE also marks a special occasion for the summer show for ag retailers: It’s been 40 years since the first MAGIE show took place.
“Over the last 40 years, the MAGIE show has grown exponentially and has come a long way since the inaugural show at the airport in Danville, IL,” says Kevin “K.J.” Johnson, the interim President of show sponsor the Illinois Fertilizer and Chemical Association (IFCA). “MAGIE has been and will continue to be dedicated and focused on supporting the ag input industry.”
For myself, I remember attending one of those early MAGIE shows in Danville back in 2001. That event took place just after the terrible events of 9/11, so the general mood of the show was a bit reserved. Despite this, however, it was impressive to be able to see the numerous suppliers that cater to the ag retail marketplace gathered in one place, putting their best foot (and products) forward for attendees to see.
In celebration of MAGIE turning 40, IFCA is planning a host of special activities at this year’s show. This will include a Farewell Celebration for retired Past President Jean Payne, taking place at the Tailgate Party the afternoon of Wednesday, August 25. In addition, our magazine, CropLife IRON, will have the chance to hand out the ShowStopper Award at that gathering, given to the product voted “best in show” by MAGIE attendees.
So I look forward to once again being able to see everyone in the industry in person at this year’s 40th MAGIE show! If you want to know more about the event, visit ifca.com for the details.
