2014 Product Of The Year Voting
For the seventh year, CropLife IRON is planning to honor this year’s Product of the Year. Below you will find profiles of the 2014 finalists, all new products introduced during 2014 and picked from reader feedback via e-mails and comments made at the industry’s various trade shows and equipment-oriented events. Now it’s up to you to decide which product should be crowned the winner. The award will be given out at one of this winter’s trade shows.

Manufacturer: Buhler-Versatile
Description: The SX280 sprayer has the largest cab in the industry, says Buhler-Versatile, and the Versatile HQ cab now enables spray operators to have even greater visibility and comfort. The rig is powered by a Cummins QSB6.7L and will meet interim Tier 4 emissions requirements. Two tank options are available: An updated 1,200-gallon stainless steel tank and the new 1,000-gallon polyurethane tank developed specifically for this sprayer.

Description: The 1,200-gallon Patriot 4440 sprayer utilizes a Case IH FPT 8.7-liter engine, rated at 335 hp, equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) only emissions technology to meet Tier 4 Final requirements. Additional enhancements include new front and rear hood styling, and new fuel tank lights. With exceptional interior space and visibility, the Surveyor cab provides a comfortable work environment during those long days of spraying. Three boom lengths from 90 to 120 feet, product plumbing options, AIM Command or AIM Command PRO spray systems, and a full complement of precision agriculture technology features allow users to customize the Patriot 4440 to fit their operation.

Description: The STS Application System features a 76-inch frame clearance, with a lightweight and balanced machine design that enhances versatility to perform timely and precise applications while minimizing compaction. Drivers can cover more acres with booms up to 132 feet and tanks up to 1,600-gallon solution capacities while performing full season applications. The sprayer-specific cab maximizes operator comfort and safety with a state-of-the-art SyKlone air filtration system and standard backup camera — while maximizing efficiencies with a droplet size monitor, decel pedal and end row management features.

Description: The R4045 sprayer adds a higher horsepower, large capacity self-propelled sprayer to John Deere’s line-up of four series sprayers introduced in 2013. It replaces the 4940 sprayer and offers high application rates, productive spray speeds, vital technologies and the comfort that drivers need to cover large fields quickly and efficiently. The R4045 features a 346 hp Final Tier 4 PowerTech PSS 9.0-liter engine with four-wheel hydrostatic drive that can operate at 25 mph spraying/spreading and 35 mph in transport.

Description: With a focus on operator convenience and overall efficiency, the NITRO 5225, 5250, 5300, 5345 and 5400 all feature a powerful Miller Systems Monitor in a large touch screen format. The Spray View cab has been adjusted to improve operator comfort, the Premium Lighting Package has been upgraded and a rear view camera is standard equipment in the Premium cab. Accessibility has been significantly improved with convenient opening access panels for the engine enclosure, providing unrestricted access to service areas. Each model is now powered with a Cummins Tier 4 final engine boasting more power and greater fuel efficiency, while producing near-zero emissions.
