Heartland Tank Companies Helps Two Ag Retailers Expand Liquid Fertilizer, Increase Efficiency
Heartland Tank Companies assisted two companies in taking what had been labeled in prior liquid fertilizer tank builds as “future expansion” and making them a reality. Heartland worked with each facility to ensure the logistics of adding aboveground liquid fertilizer tanks created efficiency for the liquid fertilizer division of the terminal.

WHAT THEY NEEDED
Green Valley Agricultural, Inc. required expansion of its liquid fertilizer capabilities to serve the increasing demand for UAN for side dressing and Ammonium Thiosulfate (ATS) in Western Michigan. Heartland Tank Companies worked with Green Valley to design the most efficient and environmentally protective location for another 2-million gallon storage tank for 32% UAN and a 300,000 gallon tank for ATS. Green Valley also wanted to continue its commitment to the environment, so they choose an internal PVC liner that serves as primary containment and the tank as secondary containment, ensuring if the primary containment did fail that product would be contained in the tank and not introduced to the ground or water supply.

WHAT THEY NEEDED
Wanting to centralize agronomy product, distribution, dispatching, and billing to better serve their customers, New Cooperative worked with Heartland Tank Companies to develop a long-range growth plan in 2013. At that time New Cooperative, constructed a 2-million gallon UAN storage tank. Recently, New Cooperative decided to use a second allocated tank space for construction of a second 2-million gallon tank. During construction of Tank 2, it was determined they needed to add Tank 3. Heartland was able acquire the U.S. plate steel for the additional tank at Roelyn as well as for another tank needed in Rowan, IA. The result is an impressive liquid fertilizer facility of which all the employees and members can be proud.
