WHAT THEY NEEDED

PAUL MEYER CHEMICALS was established in the 1980s in Walcott, IA, and provides Midwest farmers with chemicals, fertilizer, and seed. Paul Meyer Chemicals has continued to grow over the years and needed a new bulk fertilizer storage building due to increased consumer demand. Knowing that spring is a crucial time for farmers, Paul Meyer Chemicals was looking for a building provider that could not only work with their schedule but also be completed and ready in time for spring planting. Having heard of Legacy Building Solutions through the agricultural network and knowing many other establishments working with Legacy led Brad Meyer of Paul Meyer Chemicals to connect with Paul Smith, Building and Design Consultant at Legacy, who specializes in bulk commodity and fertilizer storage.

WHAT WE DESIGNED

We collaborated with Paul Meyer Chemicals to design and construct a 10,080-square-foot facility, which was completed in the spring of 2021. The structure features a white fabric roof with 12% translucency, allowing for ample natural light to filter in and thereby reducing lighting costs. One of the key design elements is Legacy’s proprietary EpoxxiShieldTM corrosion protection, specifically the COR Elite package, which provides maximum protection against the corrosive effects of fertilizer. This ensures the longevity and durability of the building frames. Additionally, the facility is customized to meet the specific needs of Paul Meyer Chemicals, including accommodating new equipment, which is a common requirement in the fertilizer industry.

The building is engineered to withstand wind speeds up to 105 mph and a 30 pound/square foot ground snow load, ensuring resilience against harsh weather conditions. The facility also supports a 550-pound/foot drag conveyor system and has a 1,700-ton capacity, making it robust enough for the operational demands of Paul Meyer Chemicals. Clad in Legacy’s ExxoTecTM Elite fabric, the building not only meets functional requirements but also provides an enhanced working environment with its bright and well-lit interior. This project exemplifies our commitment to delivering customized, durable, and efficient building solutions that meet the unique needs of our clients.
