AcreForward tells the story of what is happening on every acre of every field
Data is the highway infrastructure that agriculture has sped along for the past few decades, and the dead-end sideroads and alleys—those numbers that haven’t quite had a place in actionable management—have multiplied. The team behind Taranis’ AcreForward is working to connect those sideroads and alleys. With high-resolution, leaf-level imagery, Taranis is putting knowledge at the fingertips of decision-makers when and where it is needed most. Every acre tells a story. Taranis not only records that story but stores it for playback at any time.
For Mike DiPaola, Taranis’ Chief Commercial Officer, data isn’t enough.
“Data is great. But if I can show you a picture of what’s happening in your field, on a plant, and we can look at it together, that turns data into an interpretation of what’s in that image. The image is the proof, and it adds to knowledge in a way that data alone can’t,” says DiPaola.
Seeing Data in a New Way
Nutrien is always looking for opportunities to grow efficacy both for their team and the growers they serve. As a Taranis customer, Nutrien NOH Sales Manager, Brian Essinger shares, the tool is providing insights never before seen.
“I’ve had a 58-year-old grower tell me, “This is more than replant. I’m seeing my farm in a whole different way”. He’s farmed for 30+ years,” Essinger says with excitement. “It’s more than drone flying. Anyone can get a drone. Nutrien Digital Scout is algorithms, it’s looking at things that have been done well, things that can be improved, or situations that can be better controlled, and doing it efficiently and effectively.”
Essinger says that agronomists can’t physically cover every acre assigned to them, so recommendations for a farm are made from spot checks. Nutrien Digital Scout takes the guessing out of farm recommendations by providing insights for every acre on the farm. The tool allows an agronomist to effectively cover 25,000+ acres across multiple farming operations and make recommendations in minutes rather than hours. And those quick-turnaround insights that save time, money, and yield, says Essinger, are where trust is built and partnerships grow.
Building Trust, Growing Partnerships
Essinger says that Nutrien Digital Scout creates an experience that positions Nutrien as a key influencer – a partner – for the farm.
“Last year we had a replant situation. We picked it up from the Taranis (insights), used our HD population recommendation, and put a replant situation scenario together for him. The farmer had driven by this field every day and missed it—it looked good. Our agronomist looked at the images, and scouted the field himself, and within 15 minutes we had a replant recommendation beamed into that farmer’s tractor. Nutrien Digital Scout Powered by Taranis allowed everyone who was busy to look at something we would have all missed. To this day, that farmer tells us, “You saved me on that farm.”
