Spring-Applied Sulphur Bentonite with Tiger XP® or Tiger 90CR® Sulphur!
A question we often hear is, “When is the best time to apply sulphur bentonite to my fields?” The correct answer is, “It depends.” If you have observed sulphur-deficiency symptoms or have had low sulphur levels in your soil analysis, you need to apply Tiger-Sul products.
It is important to consider which application rates and methods best fit your agronomic and farming operations. There are many factors that can influence sulphur bentonite application decisions.
What are the benefits of a spring application? Tiger-Sul Products has conducted over ten years of small-plot and on-farm research. The results show that 83% of spring-applied sulphur trials demonstrated yield increases. |
As soil temperatures rise into the 60s °F (15.5°C), microbes in the soil begin oxidizing the fractured sulphur particles.
A spring application of sulphur bentonite provides a season-long source of sulphate. The biological oxidation of sulphur is on-going and increases as soil temperature rises throughout the summer. Essentially, sulphate is made available as crop demand increases.
There is a documented increase in nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) when sufficient soil sulphur is available.
There is a difference between crop removal and plant uptake rates for sulphur. Crop removal is the sulphur that is removed from the field with the harvested portion of the crop, but uptake is the amount of sulphur that is required by the plant to reach its optimal yield potential. When soil sulphur levels are below optimum, it is highly recommended that sulphur uptake rates be used for fertilization. In addition to providing sulphur nutrition for crops, Tiger 90CR® can be used as a soil amendment to lower soil pH. This can be used on soils with high pH levels to increase nutrient availability. |
Application Convenience:
Sulphur bentonite is one of the most versatile fertilizer products that can be applied to crops. It can be broadcast, placed in furrow or 2×2, or even applied in a blend with aerial application.
Tiger-Sul products are high-density, high-sulphur analysis fertilizers which can result in increased acres covered, and higher farm efficiency.
Tiger-Sul products blend well with most other dry crop inputs. Since sulphur bentonite has a low salt index, it is safe to place in the furrow next to seeds or in a broadcast with small seeds.
Return on Investment:
Tiger-Sul Products’ research shows that when compared with the grower standard, sulphur bentonite applications typically return a yield increase, resulting in a higher return on investment (ROI).
The Tiger-Sul Advantage:
For over sixty years, Tiger-Sul’s commitment to the science behind sulphur fertilizer has led the industry in new formulations, new application methods, standardized rate calculations, product innovations, and along with the industry, we are promoting sulphur as the fourth major nutrient.
